Dear Parents,
Good afternoon XLIS community!
We are very excited and happy to be starting the second semester of the 2023 – 2024 academic year at XLIS! First, I would like to extend a big welcome to our new students and their families! I enjoyed getting to meet each one of our 10 new PYP students as they arrived last week and was delighted to see how happy and comfortable they seemed to be starting their new journey at our school. I hope they make many new friends and settle in quickly!
Chinese New Year Celebration and Open Day
This will be my last letter before we have a two-week holiday for Chinese New Year. Before we send off for this holiday, we would be delighted if you all could join us for our annual Chinese New Year celebration on Wednesday, January 31st! The Early Years (ECEA to P1) students will have their activities from 8:20 – 11:30 am in the Early Years area. Then, in the afternoon, our P2 to P6 students will have performances in the Blue Dragon Theatre and activities in the surrounding area. We would love to see you there!
In addition, we will have a whole school “Open Day” on the morning of January 31st as well. This is an opportunity for new families who may have an interest in sending their children to XLIS to come and learn about us, to explore our campus and to see if we may be what they are looking for with regards to education for their child. If you know any families who may be interested in joining us, please extend a warm welcome to them!
Setting Goals for the Second Semester
The start of a new semester is an exciting time! There is much to look forward to, but it is also a perfect time for reflection! It is excellent practice for students to think about their learning and identify what they feel confident and capable of doing. What do they enjoy at school? What do they feel they do really well? It is also important for them to identify areas they feel they can improve in and to set goals for themselves! I highly encourage you to sit with your child for a reflection time (even our Early Years students can do this!) Have your child think about what they are great at and what they would like to work on for Semester 2. Thinking about learning will help them keep focus in the semester ahead.
This will be my last notice before the Chinese New Year holiday starting on February 3rd. We have a staff Professional Development Day on Monday, February 19th, so students return to school on Tuesday, February 20th. Wishing you all the best as we welcome the Year of the Dragon!
As always, I love hearing from you! You may contact me at any time through email (marly.song@xalis.com) or add me to WeChat (principal_marly).
Thank you for choosing XLIS,
Sincerely,
Marly Song
