Dear Parents,
In this week’s newsletter, I would like to share the XLIS language policy and inform you about our early release PD days.
XLIS Language Policy
Please find the complete XLIS language policy below. As you will read in the language policy we believe that language is an important part of an individual’s cultural identity. The second language is built upon the mother tongue. Students have the opportunity to learn Mandarin and Korean at XLIS, but our language of instruction is English. Students are required to use English in all of their subjects except for Mandarin and Korean classes. Please help us to encourage students to use English at all times at school and to use it at home as much as possible.
Our first schoolwide goal at XLIS is to support students to develop their competencies in XLIS language of instruction. Let us all work together to achieve this goal.
Early Release PD
There will be two early-release Professional Development (PD) days this semester. They will be this Wednesday the 6th of September and again on November 1st. On these days school staff present to one another best practices, to help us achieve our schoolwide goals. PD usually takes place after school but there are two early release days this semester.
Please note your child will be coming home an hour earlier this Wednesday. Busses will leave from the school at 14:20.
Have a lovely week and please do take the time to respond to this email and let me know how you and your child are doing. I love to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Brian Lalor (M.Ed.)
Deputy Head of School
