1. Wednesday, 3rd September
Early Release PD
We will have our first early release professional development session of the year on this day. Dr. Sisi Chen from Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) will be coming to the school to provide three workshops. The first will be for all middle leaders to optimize data analysis to inform instruction. The second will be for our parents to learn how to use MAP assessment to support their children. The final session will be for all staff to lean how to use the data to differentiate instruction.

International Day of Peace
The International Day of Peace is the first celebration of the academic year for the entire XLIS community to gather. Students, teachers, and caregivers are invited for a morning of musical performances, engaging activities, and collaborative art projects that center around this year’s theme of “Act Now for a Peaceful World”.

The September PTA meeting schedules on September 23rd, all PTA members are invited to participate, main agendas will be shared out soon.

University Fair
University Fair, where representatives from various U.S. universities will meet with students! This is an opportunity to explore study options, ask questions about admissions, and learn about diverse programs. Discover important application deadlines, scholarship opportunities, and receive personalized advice directly from universities. Students interested in applying to the U.S. are encouraged to prepare questions in advance! For specific details, University Guidance Counselor Erika will notify you via ManageBac.
6. Sports Seasons Begin
The XLIS Blue Dragons, our school’s sports teams, start their interscholastic seasons in the month of September by playing in league fixtures against other schools in Xi’an. The teams representing XLIS this semester involve students from P3 all the way until DP2. The whole community is invited to each fixture to cheer on our Blue Dragons!

Assemblies
The Primary class assembly schedule will start mid-September as the first two weeks will be important assemblies for our students led by our School Counselling team and Mr. Kriss Parker about Child Protection. Parents of the presenting class (starting September 19) may register to attend through the XLIS WeChat app.

Primary Parent Workshop
Online Platforms Used at XLIS–led by Ms. Nicola Crossfield, our PYP Coordinator
Join us for an informative session focused on the online tools and platforms used in the PYP at XLIS to support student learning and enhance communication. We will explore ManageBac, IXL, Raz Kids and SeeSaw, highlighting their features and benefits. This workshop is intended for “new to XLIS”parents and is a great chance to familiarize yourself with these essential tools and to ask questions.

Secondary School Events

Secondary Parent Workshop
Parent workshop on Language and Literature and language acquisition- This workshop will focus on the salient features of the language and literature and language acquisition curricula and will consider seeing the differences between the two and how proficiency is built in the two languages. The workshop would consider procedures for transitions between phases in language acquisition and transfer to language and literature. This would be led by in-house experts in the field.

XLIS Dragon Cave Dormitory Challenge
Sunday, 14th September–Friday September 26th, 2025. The XLIS Dormitory will welcome the second cohort of middle school students (M3C and M3D) to spend a total of 10 days immersed in the development of important life skills, time management, and finding a path to becoming independent and accomplished global citizens!
