XLIS’ 2024 Summer Camp is just around the corner! As the authorized Shaanxi International Youth Collaboration Camp, Xi’an Liangjiatan International School has successfully organized several exciting summer camps since the 2018 Shakespeare Drama Summer Camp. As midsummer is approaching, we can’t wait to embark on our next adventure filled with fun educational experiences.
This year, the XLIS 2024 Summer Camp will offer two sessions: from June 24th to June 29th, and from July 8th to July 13th. We have curated a diverse range of themed camps to ignite students’ passions and cater to their varied interests. Themes include Chinese Traditional Culture, Nature Exploration, Stop-motion Animation Art, Performing Arts, Drama, English Literacy and Reading, and STEM integrated with cutting-edge technology. All programs are conducted in English (except for the Chinese Traditional Culture Camp). Students are encouraged to explore multiple camps across the two sessions, selecting themes that align with their interests and needs. · Arts and Craft Camp
Jasmine Zhang, a highly qualified and passionate educator with a master’s degree in art and design, will be the coordinator of Nature Explorers Art Summer Camp and Stop Motion Master Summer Camp. Boasting a decade of experience in art education, Jasmine brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her teaching.
Arts and Craft Camp — Nature Explorers Art Summer Camp
Students will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of art and craft activities that are inspired by the beauty and diversity of nature. From leaf rubbings to rock painting, flower pressing to twig sculptures, we will encourage students to explore their artistic talents while learning about the importance of taking care of our planet. In addition, we will organize special nature walks and outdoor excursions where your children can gather inspiration for their art projects.

Arts and Craft Camp — Stop Motion Master Summer Camp
In Stop Motion Master Summer Camp, students will explore various stop-motion techniques, such as Claymation, cut-out animation, and object animation. They will have the chance to bring their stories to life by creating their own animated shorts. From planning and scripting to filming and editing, our experienced teachers will guide your children through every step of the animation process.

· Chinese Culture Summer Camp
Sally Su will be the coordinator of the Chinese Culture Summer Camp. She graduated from Southwest Jiaotong University, and she holds a master’s degree and has been an experienced PYP Mandarin teacher for eight years. Chinese Culture Summer Camp has carefully designed a variety of courses and activities: in the Chinese Language class, students will explore the breadth and depth of Chinese language, learn Chinese Characters and calligraphy skills, experience movable type printing, and appreciate the beauty of Chinese language; in the Intangible Cultural Heritage Handicraft class, students will experience the entire process of papermaking, make Chinese herbal sachets and Chinese style Cattail fans cultivate hands-on ability; in the make and taste Chinese food and Shaanxi food in the Chinese Cuisine class, students will experience traditional Chinese cooking culture and tea culture, and understand Chinese food customs; students will also learn rich philosophy from Chinese poetry in the Classic Poem Reading class and appreciate the wisdom and values of ancient Chinese culture; finally students will learn about the cultural connotations contained in different flowers and create floral works in the Flower Art Experience class.

· Performing Arts Summer Camp
Performing Arts Summer Camp will be led by Pyoung Gang Kim. Pyoung Gang Kim is currently a candidate for Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting at the University of Washington. The performing arts summer camp offers students an immersive experience in singing, instrument playing, and dancing. Students will learn singing techniques, explore various instruments, and delve into different dance styles such as contemporary, hip-hop, and jazz. Students also learn fundamental dance techniques and choreography, enhancing their coordination and stage presence.

· STEM Summer Camp
Jane Feng will be the coordinator of the STEM Summer Camp. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Singapore Nanyang Technological University and a master’s degree in engineering from Cornell University. She has 5 years of teaching experience in MYP/DP Mathematics. Through the STEM Camp, students will have the opportunity to explore STEM content and topics that will inspire them from new perspectives. In Programming class, students will try to use JAVA to make their own video game, and in Math class, they will explore interesting Math findings and discoveries. Science and Makerspace teachers have prepared interesting scientific experiments and hands-on projects.

· English Literacy and Reading Summer Camp
Julia Fan will be the coordinator of English Literacy and Reading Summer Camp. She graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and she is currently the IB Workshop Leader, Upper Primary Teacher, and PYP Chinese Assistant Coordinator. During the English Literacy and Reading Summer Camp, students will have the exciting opportunity to delve into the distinctive features of various book genres, including realistic fiction and fantasy, as well as explore the essential elements of storytelling. With the guidance and support of their teachers, the students will embark on a creative journey to create their very own Big Book as their final masterpiece.

Emma Yang will be the coordinator of Chinese Culture Summer Camp. She completed her master’s degree at the Chinese University of Hong and has been an IB educator for over ten years. She is also an MYP and DP workshop leader, visiting school team member, and DP examiner.
Embark on a marvelous journey with Chinese Culture Summer Camp, where students will explore the rich tapestry of Chinese culture. Immerse themselves in the timeless beauty of ancient poetry, savor the wisdom of Confucius’ teachings, and engage in activities such as paper cutting, tea ceremonies, and traditional crafts, igniting their intellect and creativity. Amidst the refreshing summer days, students will embrace the company of traditional culture and gain profound insights into the depth and breadth of Chinese heritage.

· English Drama Summer Camp
English Drama Camp will be led by Lindsay Gear and Susie Mayes, two actresses as well as drama teachers from the UK who have been involved in the drama field for over twenty years. English Drama Camp offers a diverse range of drama courses tailored to meet the unique interests and skill levels of our students. From body shaping and performance basics to play rehearsal, line training, and drama appreciation, there is something for everyone to explore. Through imaginative exercises and collaborative activities, students are encouraged to unleash their artistic passions while fostering teamwork and camaraderie.

Kelvin Tian will be the coordinator of the STEAM Camp. He has a Master of Teaching from the University of Sydney and accreditation as a teacher in New South Wales. The Renewable Energy Journey Summer Camp will take students into the realm of renewable resources, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of how they can shape the future. Throughout this immersive experience, students will delve into the principles, technologies, and innovations driving the renewable energy revolution. From solar and wind power to hydroelectricity and beyond, students will unravel the intricacies of these sustainable energy sources and their transformative impact on our world. Through hands-on experiments, interactive workshops, digital simulations, on-site field trips, and insightful discussions, students will not only grasp theoretical concepts but also gain practical skills to innovate and contribute to the renewable energy landscape.

Sports Activities
Sports have always been a very important part of the XLIS teaching and learning framework, and each camp offers an engaging sports program every day during the summer camp (based on the schedule of each class), allowing students to develop a balanced lifestyle, increase cohesion, and make new friends through fun sports games, ball games, and water sports.
Introduction to the ECA program (Boarding camps only)
We offer a wide variety of after-school programs such as swimming, basketball, tennis, and science to our boarding campers, taught by both our teachers and outside partners.
Dormitory life (Boarding camps only)
Students of the boarding camps will experience the international apartment standard boarding group life in our cozy dormitories, which are equipped with fresh air system to ensure indoor air quality. Each dormitory, which can accommodate 2 to 4 students, is equipped with star-standard bedding, desks and chairs, independent bathrooms, closets, and other modern accommodations. At the same time, our experienced teachers and teaching assistants will work together to assist the students in spend an interesting campus boarding life.

· Students enrolled in XLIS are exempt from the interview procedure. Students who are not enrolled in XLIS are required to take an online interview. This interview shall primarily assess students based on two criteria: manner behaviors and English skills. Following registration, we will reach out to schedule the interview within one week.
