Dear Parents,
I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you all as we embark on the 2024-2025 academic year at XLIS! Whether you are a returning member of our school community or joining us for the first time, I am thrilled to have you with us.
As of our first school day, we are proud to welcome 646 students from 47 countries and regions. This year, we’ve opened 40 classes: 21 in primary and 19 in secondary. It has been wonderful to see all of our students settling in so well, especially the little ones adjusting to their new school life in our newly opened nursery class.
As we begin this new school year, I would like to reaffirm the XLIS Vision: To lead education through innovation, and a student-centered, community-driven approach.
Student-centered means prioritizing the well-being of every student.
At XLIS, a student-centered approach places the individual needs of each child at the heart of everything we do. This extends beyond academic success to include nurturing the emotional, social, and physical well-being of every student. We are committed to creating an environment where every child feels respected, valued, and fully supported, empowering them to reach their full potential. Equally important is fostering understanding and care among our students for the diverse cultural backgrounds within our community. By encouraging empathy and respect for different cultures, we help build a more inclusive and harmonious school environment where every student can thrive.
Community-driven reflects our belief in building a strong, supportive community around our students.
I believe that education is a collaborative effort, and a strong, supportive community is essential to a student’s success. Our community-driven approach encourages active engagement from parents, teachers, staff, and students alike, fostering mutual respect, open communication, deep connections, and shared responsibilities.
To prepare for the new year, our new teachers and staff participated in a comprehensive 10-day orientation that included the new staff and all staff training. To better support our children’s education, I hope each of our parent and community members has reviewed XLIS key policies, including the Child Protection Policy, Restorative Practices Policy, Academic Integrity Policy, and the Parents and Care-givers Code of Conduct. These policies are written in the parent and student handbooks, sent to you via email by our PR department on August 12th, 2024, and are foundational in guiding our students’ growth. If you haven’t had a chance to review them, you will find the attached QR code for easy access.
Upcoming Event: Meet the Teacher Night
I am excited to invite you to Meet the Teacher Night on August 28th. This event offers a great opportunity to connect with your child’s homeroom and subject teachers, gain insights into their daily routines, and learn more about the curriculum for the year. More details will be shared by our academic team soon. To strengthen the parent-school partnership, I highly encourage you to attend the event personally rather than sending assistants or nannies.
Upcoming Event: Online Secondary Year-level Parent Workshops
To support parents become more familiar with Secondary school, events, school and home communication, and available support, the online Parent Workshops for M1-DP2 will be offered this week. These sessions will be led by Mr. Shameek, our Secondary Principal. Below are the details, and looking forward to your participation.

Principal Emails
Throughout the year, you can expect regular Principal’s Email from our senior leadership team. Starting on the first Tuesday of each month, I will send out a principal’s email. Following that, you will receive emails from:
• Brian Lalor, Deputy Head of School (third Tuesday)
• Marly Song, Primary Principal, and Shameek Ghosh, Secondary Principal (second and fourth Tuesdays)
These emails will highlight key events, student achievements, and tips for supporting your child’s education.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s education, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my secretary, Amy Li, at amy.li@xalis.com, to schedule a meeting with our SLT member. I am always available to collaborate with you to ensure your child’s success.
Sincerely,
Lily Liu
