Dear Parents,
Hope this email finds you well. We are almost at the end of this calendar year with Christmas around the corner. At XLIS, we believe in celebrations as part of appreciation and spreading joy.
Some of our important secondary and whole school events coming up are listed here. We hope that you can join us in celebrating together and strengthening our community.
Thursday, December 12th – End of our first semester ECA program. This mean dismissal will return to 3:25 on ECA days. The second semester ECA’s do not start again until February 27th, 2025.
Saturday, December 14th – XLIS Christmas Concert and Market. Due to our growing community, the concert will be separated into Primary and Secondary concerts. The Primary concert will take place from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. The Secondary concert will take place from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm. A registration email was sent to all community members yesterday, please be sure to register to attend!
Secondary Parent workshop- This workshop on 13th of December is to explain different subject choices on offer to our current M5 students. Our DPC, Ms. Eva will run the session. This parent workshop would be a helping towards the course selection fair that would happen on16th of December. We strongly suggest that our M5 parents come to this workshop to get a better understanding of how subject choices in the DP will also influence future decisions on college majors. It is optional for M4 parents.
DP Subject fair-On 16th of December, Ms. Eva our DPC and myself will be leading the DP subject fair for our M5 students. This would be a build up from the parent workshop of 13th of December and the numerous surveys that have gone out to the students. The fair is about creating awareness on the subjects that would be offered for the students at XLIS in the DP in the academic year 2025-2026 for the graduating cohort of May 2027. Students would complete a course selection following this subject fair.
M5 PP Exhibition– On 20th of December, our M5 students will showcase their personal projects to our secondary community. The PP is a culmination of their efforts that they have taken throughout the past year. Our students have had a variety in the type of projects undertaken including a variety in the products that have been produced. Through this process, our students have enhanced their skills in academic writing, ATL skills and critical thinking. Ms. Emma Yang, our MYP coordinator will reach out to M5 parents to register their availability.
Student leaves and academics-We are having some instances of students missing lessons and quite a number of school days . This is not conducive to progress in learning. As an ethical school, we always try to support students in their academic journey. We encourage you to provide the appropriate learning environment at home, and support us in the process of developing self-management skills by sending your children to school regularly. For all leaves, parents need to write to the PR and homeroom teachers. We do not encourage and accept students writing leave letters for matters of safety.
Keep warm and wishing everyone the very best of health.
Regards,
Shameek Ghosh
