Dear Parents ,
I hope you are enjoying these beautiful autumn days.
I would like to share some updates regarding XLIS student reports and the Parent Teacher Conference, in response to questions raised at the October 22nd PTA meeting.
Student Reports
XLIS students receive three reports each academic year:
Progress Report: Issued in October, this mid-semester report provides updates on student performance, areas for improvement, and progress in each subject with teacher comments.
Semester 1 and Semester 2 Reports: Issued at the end of each semester (January and June), these include grades, teacher comments, and a summary of each student’s academic performance, often with reflections on personal growth and learning skills.
IB PYP student reports:
PYP focuses on holistic development, inquiry-based learning, and transdisciplinary skills. Student performance is evaluated by unit using a 3-point grading scale.
IB MYP & DP Student Reports:
MYP and DP students are assessed on a 1-7 scale for each subject, based on assessment criteria, with detailed teacher comments on their progress toward learning objectives. DP students also receive an additional score out of 3 points for Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE).
Parent Teacher Conference
The Parent Teacher Conference (PTC), held twice each academic year, is an opportunity for parents to address specific questions or concerns after reviewing their child’ report. In addition, each year includes a Student-Led Conference, where students take the lead in sharing their learning journey and reflections.
While these conferences are valuable, XLIS also encourages parents to stay connected throughout the year via PTA meetings, parent workshops, and Platforms like Seesaw and ManageBac. Regular communication by email with teachers helps keep parents informed on both academic and personal growth.
At XLIS, the PTCs are scheduled as one-on-one, 10-minute sessions on a first-come, first-served basis. I appreciate your understanding the appointments are limited, as we strive to accommodate all families. Please feel free to decide if a conference meeting is needed, especially if you’re already in regular contact with your child’s teachers.
