Dear Parents,
Hope this e-mail finds you in good health. As winter approaches, we would like to remind you to stay healthy and keep warm.
October has been eventful as we met with you for our three way conferences and followed this up with our literacy week activities. Our secondary students have quite actively participated in the literacy festival and come up with some concrete work. We also have our Spelling bee finals. I am sharing some of the work that our students have created as part of the celebration. We also had a story telling session by Karen Golden.
We also had our ASC WASC mid cycle visit. The WASC committee has identified the parent community as one of our strengths in the school. I would like to thank each and every one for this. We are moving towards being a better school than we are today. I hope that we can achieve this goal together.
Events in November
Wednesday, November 6th: Early Release – This day students will have an early release and teachers will engage in professional development as we work towards our MYP visit on November 22. We will also focus on debriefing a little bit about the feedback we have received from WASC. As a secondary teaching team, we can assure you that we are working hard to ensure that the quality of teaching and learning is having a high and attainable standard.
We will engage in our in-school PD on November 18th and 19th. We will have Justin Zhang from the IB leading a workshop on AI integration and building language in different subjects.
Open days and Parent workshops
We have our open days for M5 and DP parents this month. We will also have a parent workshop on November 27th for Service and CAS led by our SA and CAS coordinators.
Attendance updates
We are pleased to say that students who go for a personal competition, entrance exams such as but not limited to IELTS, SATs and TOEFLs will be eligible for educational absence under that category. At the same time, students need to provide evidence of these tests and competitions. We urge you to send in absence requests on time to ensure that students are marked appropriately.
Acceptable device use and IT policy (policy will be attached)
We have been seeing an increase in the number of students running into trouble with creating ‘we-chat’ groups outside of school with friends/classmates. We certainly do not encourage this and hope to get your support on this as well. It takes away a significant amount of time and energy from your child when they engage in these groups. In cases of misuse, we would follow the IT policy that is attached here for your reference. We always want our students to log out of ‘We-Chat’ when they submit their phones in homeroom in the morning. However, there are still cases of misuse. We hope that we can work together on this. Please have a conversation with your child at home reminding the guidelines of the IT policy.
Please feel free to reach out to me as we are one community!
Regards,
